...Or yet another online account to manage?

So I just got a new account set up with Google Wave. I'll be honest... I'm a little on the skeptical side. Even though it seems like a really neat & original concept, it will require a LOT of users to become successful.  Currently it seems too much like an ongoing chat, rather than a real useful collaboration.

Many people are expressing the same frustration- the thought of having to manage too many things online these days; MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Email #1, Email #2, YouTube, Blogs.... the list goes on. So far, there is not too much evidence of streamlining any of these services with Wave. For example, most people have at least 2 different email addresses; one for work and one for personal/spam. There is currently no way to manage multiple emails with Wave. There is also no way to get a notification of a new or updated wave; you have to log into the site to check for updates.

I honestly see more of a potential use for Wave on the commercial side rather than for personal. The problem right now is that Wave does not support professional domains the way Google Apps does (not unless you want to take their API and code your own business app yourself).  I would like to see it integrate more like Google Apps so team members can collaborate more cohesively about client projects, etc. I would also love to be able to collaborate with clients on their projects.

All in all, I think that most people like the "idea" of Wave right now. If more users (and clients) jump on the bandwagon, I could see a huge potential for Wave. Only time will tell...
